Biblical Interpretation Resource Guide

This guide outlines specific resources that may be helpful for biblical interpretation.

Free Online Commentaries

You can find a number of free, quality commentaries available via the Internet, but many of them are of dubious quality or contain grossly out-dated information. We have selected a few free web-based commentaries —mostly geared toward homiletics—from reputable, reliable resources. (For web-based versions of classic, historical commentaries, e.g, the works of Wesley or Luther, visit our Historical Commentaries page.

Enter the Bible is a resource from Luther Seminary. It was designed to "help you to understand what you read and explore the stories, people and places in the Bible... Whether it's for personal devotions, exploring the Bible or participating in a group study, you'll dig deeper into the Word with summaries, outlines, background and videos." (from the website)

Out in Scripture is a Human Rights Campaign resource which "places comments about the Bible alongside the real life experiences and concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of faith and our allies. TextWeek.com is a popular and useful online resource which provides the readings for the liturgical year based on the Revised Common Lectionary, and gathers together a variety of liturgical and exegetical resources for those readings.
